Since 1981, the Lewisham Islamic Centre has stood on the High Street as a home for the Muslims of SE13 — a place to answer the call to prayer five times a day, to seek knowledge, and to find one another. What began as a handful of worshippers has grown into a community that serves thousands across the borough.
We are more than a prayer hall. We teach the Qur'an to our children, stand with families in times of loss, feed our neighbours, and build bridges with every community in Lewisham. For over twenty-five years the congregation has been led by our Chief Imam, Shakeel Begg. Come as you are — for the ṣalāh, for the company, or simply to sit a while in the quiet.
